The journal "Phytodiversity of Eastern Europe" – international scientific journal, which publishes the results of original research in the field of study of phyto-diversity (including ecology and evolution of vegetation cover, taxonomic and syntaxonomic diversity, systematics, paleobotany). Materials for publication may be submitted in Russian or English. The journal publishes materials of floristic and geobotanical descriptions, their analysis and theoretical generalizations based on them, articles devoted to modern methods of plant research. Works on algology, lichenology, mycology, briology, plant protection, materials related to the history of Botanical and environmental research, Chronicles of scientific events, reviews and personalia are also accepted for publication.

Targets and goals

The purpose of the journal: coverage of research results in the study of plant cover in Russia and foreign countries, the dissemination and development of botanical knowledge, facilitating the exchange of views between researchers from different regions and states.

Journal Tasks:
- publication of the results of the study of the vegetation cover of Russia and foreign countries;
- promotion of botanical knowledge;
- promoting the growth of qualifications of scientific personnel.



The journal is intended for a wide range of scientists and specialists: botanists, ecologists, geographers, resource scientists, environmental practitioners, biotechnologists and pharmacists.


There are no charges for submission and publication of manuscripts.


All received articles are subject to mandatory review (detailed in  "Publication Ethics" and "Authors")


The publication frequency is 4 issues per year.

History of the journal


The Journal “Phytodiversity of Eastern Europe " was founded in 2006 at the Institute of Ecology of the Volga river basin of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the initiative of Dr.Biol.Sc., prof. Sergei Saksonov.

In 2006–2012, when the journal was emerging among authors and readers, it was published at various intervals (in 2012 the journal did not come out due to lack of funding) edited by Dr. Sc. S.V. Saksonov. Over the years, the Editorial Board included Dr. Sc. V.I. Matveev, T.I. Plaksina, V.V. Solovyova (Samara), T.B. Silaeva (Saransk), M.V. Shustov (Moscow), I.M. Raspopov (St. Petersburg) and V.M. Vasyukov, A.V. Ivanova, N.V. Koneva (Tolyatti), S.A. Rozno (Samara), N.S. Rakov (Ulyanovsk).

In 2013, Cand.of Biol.Sc. S.A. Senator was appointed the Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Phytodiversity of Eastern Europe ". The Editorial Board was updated and  included leading Russian and foreign researchers.

Currently, the journal "Phytodiversity of Eastern Europe" is a highly cited periodical scientific publication, prestigious among specialists working in the field of the study and conservation of plant diversity.
